Empowering Positive Change Together

The mission of Eyes on Aiken is to identify and address overlooked needs in individual lives and neighborhoods, to empower citizens with resources for personal improvement, and to engage volunteer networks for community enhancement.

Eyes on Aiken sounds the alarm, calling on the citizens of greater Aiken to break free from comfort zones, blind spots, and complacency. We cannot be idle while our children face the harsh realities of bullying, suicide, human trafficking, and the devastation of drugs.

Many of our elderly citizens struggle with loneliness, predatory scams, the sound of gunshots, food insecurity, and meeting their monthly bills. The time has come to let go of the past and focus on the pressing issues of today.

Eyes on Aiken is not reinventing the wheel; rather, we are forging relationships with fellow citizens and creating partnerships with community organizations. Our role is to be an additional community asset, with “eyes everywhere” so that no individual might slip through the cracks.

Community

Eyes on Aiken actively addresses issues that cause our neighborhoods to decline. Individual people and pocket neighborhoods are being forgotten, neglected, and even abandoned, creating situations that put our residents and the community at risk. Eyes on Aiken fosters and maintains a network of volunteers who serve as eyes and ears throughout our neighborhoods, identifying immediate needs for remedy and opportunities for advocacy. Eyes on Aiken also is proactive. We work hands-on to restore pride in our communities. Volunteers participate in our neighborhood revitalization, street clean-up, and beautification initiatives.

Remedy

The needs that arise among Aiken’s residents are as diverse as the residents themselves, requiring Eyes on Aiken to be agile, flexible, and resourceful. One of our primary remedies is to provide basic needs such as food, clothing, shoes, household goods, and other essentials. We provide food for the homeless on a regular basis. We also remedy with counsel on access to the many public and private social service resources, as well as to general healthcare and wellness.

Advocacy

When Eyes on Aiken gets involved, issues get resolved. We provide a community interface with local government councils, and with departments such as public services and public safety. The leaders of Eyes on Aiken regularly attend community meetings, including Aiken City Council, Aiken County Council, and Aiken County School Board, giving a powerful voice to the concerns of underrepresented and disadvantaged populations. We engage in advocacy to keep our streets and neighborhoods safe.
